I’d consider that winning.

My wife used to try, but I think she gave up because every conversation went like this:

Wife “I saw a car today. I think it was a Ferrari or something?”

Me “Ok? What kind was it?”

W “I dunno... red?”

M “I see. Well what did it look like? Was it 2 seats or 4? Convertible or hard top?”

W “I don’t know. It had 2 doors, and a man was driving it and it was red.”

M “So what makes you think it’s a Ferrari?”

W “It had some kind of logo on it. And it looked fast.”

M “A Prancing Horse Logo?”

W “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”

Anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours later, as we’re out and about...

W (excitedly) “THAT’S IT, THAT’S THE CAR I SAW, BUT RED!” Points to literally any car that’s not a Ferrari including but not limited to Porsche 911, Corvette, Toyota Avalon, Honda Civic, etc.

My gf used to get really excited when we first started dating and she’d recognize another Toyobaru. Even sent me pictures of some at her work or school when I wasn’t there with her.

Less car pictures now, but she will go to track days/autocrosses with me and is gonna come with me to Detroit this weekend for the Jalopnik karting event.

My mom is the same way. While driving back to college last year, we spotted a blue BMW i8. I asked her to take a photo of it (since I was driving), and I see her aiming the camera at a blue Jetta.

I yelled at her and she managed to get this awesome shot before it hit the off-ramp.

She’s also adamant that she can’t drive my C6 Vette because, “I only learned how to drive a 5-speed manual!”

That’s great! My mom couldn’t figure out my sister’s 6 speed RSX-S before (last stick she drove was my dad’s ‘72 Vette 4 spd). So she was like blah, all these gears, and would just shift through them, so next thing you know we’re lugging the shit out of the engine at like 30 mph trying to go uphill in 6th gear. And then she would say something like “I thought this was supposed to be a sports car.” Needless to say I took her for a ride in it... now she lugs it around in high gear... from fear!
